Abstract

LEONE, Miguel. Security Rationalities against the Mapuche People: A Comparative Analisys of State Policies in Chile and Argentina. Temas debates (En línea) [online]. 2020, n.40, pp.89-110. ISSN 1853-984X.

This text compares the repressive policies that the states of Chile and Argentina are applying to the Mapuche people. To do that, it proposes the concept of securitization process of the Mapuche territorial demand. The comparing is made from three axes: i) the stigmatization –and criminalization in terms of “terrorist threatness”–; ii) the judicialization of activists; and iii) the militarization of the territory. In addition to highlighting divergences and convergences presented by the two repressive places, the article concludes that, to end these policies, it is necessary to simultaneously operate on the three aspects of the security process.

Keywords : Mapuche demand; Securitization; Indigenous policy; Judicialization.
