Abstract

ADAMINI, Marina. The Persistence of the Trade Union in Post-Industrial Times: An Approach from the Process of Union Formalization of Computer Workers. Temas debates (En línea) [online]. 2022, n.44, pp.59-81. ISSN 1853-984X.

It seeks to analyze the union formalization process that the Trabajadores Informáticos de Tandil (TIT) group went through, to reflect on the legal and symbolic persistence of the trade union as an institution of representation of workers in the current post-industrial context. And on the other hand, also analyze the potential and limits of informal union organizations that, like TIT, emerge as a union alternative seeking to expand representation beyond the traditional trade union model. The IT sector has a large incidence of registered employment and salaried workers with formal union rights. However, the lack of union status, the anti-union business practices, the identity distancing of young IT workers from the unions, and the high labor turnover, hinder a material and concrete trade union development. This affects a low rate of unionization and conflict in the sector. In this framework, we are interested in studying the emergency process of the TIT self-organization and its subsequent formalization as a regional delegation of the trade union Asociación Gremial de Computación, analyzing its motives and implications, based on conducting in-depth interviews with its main referents and the documentary analysis of its gazettes and virtual publications.

Keywords : trade union; IT sector; self-organization; post-industrial society.
