Abstract
SALVAGNI, Julice; COLOMBY, Renato Koch and MENEZES, Daiane Boelhouwer. Women in Politics: Sub-Representation, Power Relations and Male Domination. Temas debates (En línea) [online]. 2023, n.46, pp.73-93. ISSN 1853-984X.
Power relations, which are social, historical, and structural constructions of a society constituted by male domination, are ensured daily through symbolic violence. Women, despite advances in civil rights, are still the most responsible for domestic work, are paid less than men and are under-represented in the field of politics. In this sense, the representation of women in politics is seen as a possibility for collective action, in pursuit of the interests of minority groups. Therefore, the present theoretical essay intends to tension elements such as the relations of power and domination that involve women in the political field and the under-representation of women in the Brazilian political scenario.
Keywords : gender; power relations; representation; women in politics; domination.
