Abstract

CARRETERO, Mario et al. La Construcción del conocimiento histórico. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2013, n.39, pp.13-23. ISSN 1995-7785.

This paper presents some empirical and theoretical advances about the understanding of the historical knowledge of adolescents and adults. This subject is addressed from different research perspectives. On one side sociocultural psychology argues that historical narratives are cultural artifacts proposed to the subjects as a material for understanding history, restricting information about the past. On the other side, the contributions of cognitive psychology allow to see the relationship between cultural production of historical contents and the appropriation process of the historical narratives by the subjects according to their cognitive development. Also, the relationship between the production of historiography and the elements present in the teaching of history allows us to consider the objectives that for decades have been sought by the school history. Finally, we propose an analytical model of the process of appropriation of historical narratives containing the following characteristics: the definition of the historical subject by an operation of exclusion-inclusion; identification as both a cognitive and affective anchor; the presence of a mythical and heroic historical characters; the simplification of historical events around the central motive of the quest for freedom and territory; the existence of moral directives; and an ontological and essentialist conception of the nation and of its inhabitants.
