Abstract

DONAIRE, Ricardo. Extracción social y condiciones de vida de los docentes en Argentina. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2013, n.39, pp.24-34. ISSN 1995-7785.

raditionally, in Argentina, teachers have been characterized as part of the middle class or the petty bourgeoisie, and especially as part of its upper, high or well-off strata -depending on the theoretical perspective. To a large extent, this characterization is based mainly on the predominantly female composition of teachers and their condition of wives in the households in which they live. However, specific studies are scarce and often based on limited samples, so the consensus on the results is so weak that the question regarding the extent to which the female character of teachers is an expression either of the relatively more exalted or degraded status of that group still remains unsolved. This paper attempts a new approach to the social background of teachers, their living conditions and the relationship between each other, to determine to what extent they can be considered or not as part of that portion of population who occupy "relatively important positions in the social structure ". To achieve this we will use data from the national population census of 2001.

Keywords : Teachers; Social background; Living conditions; Social position; Social structure.
