Abstract

The article presents different kinds of tensions generated by the inclusion of the competence approach in the field of education, analyzing those arising from the different positions in the literature about the subject. Starting from its emergence in the 90s beside the "efficientist" thought that accompanied the neoliberal policies, a reflection on the reasons for the current resurgence is presented, which is associated, on the one hand, with the long struggle against the encyclopedism, and on the other hand, with the promotion of closer links between school experience and the ones of students. Then, it is analyzed not only the mechanical and reductionist manner in which a dominant thought about the competences has been shaped but also the difficulties for applying it to the school program. Finally, a series of recommendations for its implementation are presented, while the attention is called to the tension with the wider teaching projects objectives.
