Abstract

REY, Bernard. En torno a las palabras: Competencia" y "competencia profesional. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2014, n.42, pp.28-38. ISSN 1995-7785.

The use of the word competence has led to several debates. While from a minimalist approach a competence is the ability to accomplish certain actions, this statement says nothing about the procedures, methods, steps and means that we should implement to accomplish that action. Neither says something about the mental functioning of the competent individual, much less on how to acquire them. It is a word that expresses a social relationship that attributes an action to the individual who makes it and that modifies the relations between employers and employees. Related to the school field, it is important to know how and about what be competent. What is at stake is to define the conditions and objectives of the training. When speaking of teaching skills, it is suggested that the teacher should determine in each case, which is the "wisdom" to apply. However, the policy regulations pre-determine this criterion.

Keywords : Competence; Professional competence; Individualism; Regulation.
