Abstract

RODRIGUEZ GARCES, Carlos  and  CASTILLO RIQUELME, Victor. Nivel de logro PSU: Lo que devela el puntaje corregido en las Pruebas de Admisión Universitaria en Chile. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2015, n.44, pp.89-100. ISSN 1995-7785.

Increasing the educational offer has dualized the higher education system in Chile. Currently 33 universities, with a total of 1,423 programs, stick to the Unified Admission via University Selection Test, test which is realized annually by around 200,000 students who obtained different results. This article explores, using regression analysis multivariate, distinctive attributes that have segments of low and high level of achievement in the PSU tests. In keeping with the highest standards, the proportion of students with high level of achievement is marginal. Also, a significant contingent of students fails to meet at least one item correctly (7.1% in Mathematics and Science 13.7%), contradictory figures in a test aligned to curriculum theory and calls into question the ability of the system to install and certify curriculum skills. Social and family factors such as lower maternal education, income levels, school type and the educational branch are attributes that affect this situation.

Keywords : University admission; Educational equity; Chilean higher education; Educational segmentation; Educational quality.
