Abstract

BECERRA, Marina. A Room of One's Own: Gender Relations, Love and Teaching in Argentina at the Beginning of the 20th Century. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2019, n.51, pp.42-60. ISSN 1995-7785.

In this work I analyze the representations about romantic love and gender roles, by teachers graduated from Normal Schools, within the framework of the patriarchal structuring of relations between the sexes that characterized the first four decades of the twentieth century in Argentina. It is also an analysis of the conditions of possibility that enabled the teaching for women in the context of a social order that established certain rights according to sex. Specifically, I analyze the writings of the normal teachers Herminia Brumana (1897-1954) and Angélica Mendoza (1897-1960) since, even with multiple differences, these are political positions of resistance to the established social order.

Keywords : Women; Teachers; Resistance; Romantic love; Gender.
