Abstract

FUENTES, Sebastián  and  ZIEGLER, Sandra. Private higher Education in Argentina: Customization and Territorialization Policies in University Expansion and Diversification. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2021, n.55, pp.34-57. ISSN 1995-7785.

The private university sector has been developing for 60 years, its academic units are located in the large cities and provincial capitals of central and northern Argentina, and in recent years it has undergone a process of significant territorial expansion. The current growth and diversification show a dynamic of customization of the institutions, which are diversified in the territory, including intermediate cities in the country. Customization is carried out according to the profile of the students (class sector, proximity to the university, careers), and on the basis of a pedagogical proposal that appeals to social sectors that increasingly seek a university centered on the accompaniment of students, the adaptation to their interests and possibilities, and which in turn produces multiple differentiations, such as internationalization or alliances with local/municipal actors. The territorialization policy allows private universities to expand in gradual rhythms, on reduced and economically viable scales.

The research was developed with a qualitative strategy that approaches the institutional strategies of offerings and main and non-main campuses deployed in cities of different sizes and political-administrative character in Argentina.
