Abstract

AREA-MOREIRA, MANUEL. Emergency Remote Teaching during COVID-19 in Higher Education. The Post-pandemic Challenges. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2021, n.56, pp.57-70. ISSN 1995-7785.

This article is a reflection essay on the impact of COVID-19 on university education and on what the digital transformation of higher education should be looking towards a post-pandemic time. For this, this work is structured in four parts. In the first, we made a brief review of the publications on the effects of COVID-19 on higher education, noting that there is a huge academic literature at the global and Iberian-American level on the matter. In the second section we propose a characterization or inventory of the teaching practices developed during confinement and that respond to what is called ERE (emergency remote teaching). In the third part, we propose that the digital transformation of higher education should not be understood as a temporary period as a consequence of the Covid, but should be undertaken as a process of historical adaptation of universities to the transformations that are occurring in 21st century societies . We conclude, by way of conclusions, drawing some lessons derived from the pandemic in order to promote digital education in our universities.

Keywords : Education and COVID-19; Digital university; Emergency remote instruction; Distance education; Digital transformation.
