Abstract

Anastomotic leak is the cardinal complication in colorectal surgery due to its impact on patients and the healthcare system. Although several factors associated with its etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis have been identified, the incidence of leaks is not decreasing. This paper reviews the current state of anastomotic leaks in colorectal surgery.
