Abstract

The Salesian Congregation arrived in Santa Cruz National Territory at the end of the Nineteenth century. They did not dedicated to their primary objective, elaborated by Don Bosco, of Christianising the regional tribes of natives, owing to the characteristics of the territory, but devoted to the teaching of children and youths, opening schools all along the Atlantic shore.The aforementioned educational task, in accordance with the original aim of the Congregation, went beyond and, by means of its multiple activities,gained acknowledged presence in the society of the territory. The methodology implemented by the Salesians in order to be more than teachers, as well as whatever was attempted by the secular organizations, and the response obtained from those to whom these attempts were directed are going to be analyzed in this paper.
