Abstract

VELAZQUEZ SEIFERHELD, David. “Desratizar la enseñanza es una tarea auténticamente nacionalista…”: La polémica sobre el nacionalismo y la escuela nueva: (1925-1941). Hist. educ. anu. [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.2, pp.140-159. ISSN 2313-9277.

This article shows the political and ideological tensions sourrounded the design, the execution and ending of the Primary Education Reform that took place between 1925 and 1931, leadered by Ramón Indalecio Cardozo, General Director of Schools. This reform had as main axis the New School paradigm. From the analysis of the available documentation comes to light the conflict between nationalisms: on one hand, the civic nationalism, that took part of the Reform; and on the other hand, differents types of nationalism: ethnic, warrior or heroic, romantic and even religious, opposing from different views to New School movement. This debate had as background the conflict between different conceptions of the past. When the centenary of birth of Francisco Solano López was close, the inminent belic conflict with Bolivia could be felt, the one that happened between 1932 and 1935.

Keywords : Paraguay; Education; New School; Liberal nationalism; Heroic nationalism.
