Abstract

MANZONI, Celina. Return Poetics: The Nightmare of Returnin in Contemporary Latin American Culture. CELEHIS [online]. 2015, n.29, pp.143-160. ISSN 2313-9463.

This essay proposes a new examination of the rhetoric of travel by means of "return poetics": modes of displacement which, even if common in globalized culture, in the Latin American experience have articulated textualities that challenge the critical imagination as they bring to a crisis the concepts of "identity," "language," and "nation," rooted so strongly in 19th-century culture. The analysis of texts by Calvert Casey, Reinaldo Arenas, and Guillermo Rosales invites new discussions on the so-called "Cuban diaspora" and some of the critical issues it involves.

Keywords : exile; diaspora; identity; language.
