Abstract

BARISONE, José Alberto. La perspectiva americanista de Rubén Darío. CELEHIS [online]. 2017, n.33, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9463.

Diverse cultural traditions and different aesthetics converge in Rubén Darío. At a certain stage, criticism has established a series of features as constitutive and representative of Spanish American modernism and Darío's work: cosmopolitism, exoticism, verbal luxury, the quest for the artificial and rare, to give some examples. These notes, in fact, are present in many of his productions, above all in the lyrical, but they are not the only ones. Being far from picturesque and regionalism, while representing reality in the Nicaraguan's work, does not imply unawareness of the American world. In the present work we propose to identify, analyse and explain the ways in which Americanism appears in texts by Rubén Darío. We notice that the Latin American perspective appears in five aspects: subjects; awareness on part of the author of the novelty and originality of the movement he headed; acknowledgement and affirmation of the Spanish American cultural identity; value attached to pre-Columbian Aboriginal tradition; and his intellectual positioning regarding geopolitical issues of his time.

Keywords : Modernism - Spanish America - Rubén Darío - aesthetic representation - Americanism.
