Abstract

DEL PIERO, Gina. One-on-one: Tartabul of David Viñas in binary key. CELEHIS [online]. 2017, n.34, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9463.

David Viñass Tartabul o los últimos argentinos del siglo XX (Sudamericana, 2006) is a puzzle from which the most important pieces are missing. As readers, we take part in an impossible game that casts us aside, between the place inhabited by the characters and the one inhabited by us. The main reason for this displacement is that we take part in a dialogue that has already reached its limit of participants: two. This article identifies the impossibility of a third participant as the key to understanding the thick layer of meaning that this novel has to offer.  The characters that join "el Tarta" share a history, a generation, an ensamble of contradictions that disguise behind a language with a broken syntax and lost references. Their lives are founded on the dilemma: staying home or going abroad, matter or spirit, to oppress or to be oppressed. David Viñas encrypts in this way, in his last novel, Argentinian history and literature.

Keywords : David Viñas - Tartabul - Argentinian Literature - 20th Century.
