This article proposes to consider the scope of mourning and violence in Citizen. An American lyric, the multi-award-winning book by Jamaican-born poet Claudia Rankine. Composed by a variety of pieces that compile, edit and archive scenes in relation to racialized violence in contemporary American societies, Rankine's text insists on the importance of mourning and loss as experiences that allow the creation of another type of citizenship.
