Abstract

IBARLUCIA, Rocío. Vicente Huidobro's magazines through their covers: Ombligo, Vital, Total and Actual (1934-1944). CELEHIS [online]. 2020, n.40, pp.110-119. ISSN 2313-9463.

This article aims to analyze comparatively the covers of magazines Ombligo, Vital, Total and Actual, led by Vicente Huidobro between 1934 and 1944, in order to identify the objectives of each publication. From the methodological perspective offered by Louis, Pita González y Delgado (2014), we examined an offset that goes from an experimental graph in the first two publications -they break with certain protocols of conventional reading- toward a more conventional format in Total and Actual. The transformation of the design reveals the continuities and disruptions on the cultural ideal pursued by the director in each publication. Therefore, the ways to start each number define the place that the magazine attributed to art in relation to politics, as well as evidence the system of alliances between Huidobro and other poets. On the other hand, addresses the problem of authorship from the analysis of the presence and the pace of the publications of Huidobro, whose variations respond to destabilizations in the intellectual and cultural program of the author.

Keywords : Vicente Huidobro; literary magazines; Latin American vanguards; politics.
