Abstract

PASETTI, Pía. "And my hand does not stop writing". A route of the writing scenes of El lugar by Mario Levrero. CELEHIS [online]. 2022, n.43, pp.41-50. ISSN 2313-9463.

In the latest productions by Mario Levrero (Montevideo, 1940-2004), the inquisitions around scriptural praxis tend to occupy the textual space. Thisisexhibited, in particular, in the “Diario de un canalla” (1992), El discurso vacío (1996) y La novela luminosa (2005). However, we note that in the earliest stages of its production a series of problems are already beginning to be outlined that, in the texts just mentioned, appear exacerbated. We refer to the transgression of the instrumental nature of writing -the écrivance (Barthes, 1981)-, to give way to an intransitive writing; the relationship between well-being and writing praxis (Kristeva, 1991); and the construction of subjects posessing the “knowledge of writing” (Gramuglio 1992; Jitrik, 2000). In this work, we will focus on one of his first novels, El lugar-written in 1969 and published in 1982, and part of the so-called “Trilogía involuntaria” -, with the aim of examining various scenes of writing and metatextual passages that we read as instances germinal nuclei producing meaning that go through this last stage of his work.
