Abstract

SANDOVAL, Sergio Luján. Animal subjectivity in “Los caballos” by Mario Chaves. CELEHIS [online]. 2022, n.43, pp.81-90. ISSN 2313-9463.

This article analyzes the story “Los caballos” belonging to the book Ccoca (1926) of the writer from Arequipa Mario Chabes (1903-1981). The aim is to demonstrate that metaphorical logic is abandoned, and the animal is recognized as an autonomous being that does not seek to represent or moralize as a fable. For this, we will use the notions of humanity condition, developed by Philippe Descola and that of cosmological subject, outlined by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro. The article is divided into four parts: the first is a brief introduction; the second corresponds to the critical reception of Ccoca; in the third we will expose the notions and, finally, in the fourth we will analyze the story. Finally, we conclude that the animal presence in “Los caballos” allow to question anthropocentrism and Cartesian discourse.

Keywords : Ccoca; Mario Chabes; animality; condition of humanity; cosmological subject.
