Abstract

CHIAPPE, Marta; BIANCO, Mariela  and  ALMEIDA, Jalcione. Intereses en disputa en torno a la agrobiotecnología: un análisis comparativo entre Uruguay y el sur de Brasil. Pampa [online]. 2011, n.7, pp.121-139. ISSN 2314-0208.

The study examines the relationships, strategies and social representations that diverse social agents and groups have developed towards biotechnologies applied to agriculture in two regions: Uruguay and South of Brazil, from a comparative perspective. In recent years, both countries have witnessed a potential conflictive relationship among diverse social agents regarding power, knowledge, control and access to this type of technology. Through the analysis of documents and interviews to key informants, the study identifies the main players involved in the debate in both regions, their views, interests, and ideas, as well as conflicts and alliances that have rised around the research and use of biotechnologies, and how they have developed in the specific cases of Uruguay and Southern Brazil.

Keywords : Agro-biotechnology; Genetically modified organisms (GMOs); Biosecurity.
