Abstract

The paper focuses in the first instance, the discussion about new rurality, its main contributions in Latin America and the link it has with the notion of territory and its subsequent reformulations. Then, the two cases study are presented together with the description of the socioeconomic and environmental characteristics that we consider relevant to our analysis, seeking review of the closeness and distance between that theoretical production and contemporary situation of two particular geographical contexts of Argentina: the called «Línea Sur» in Río Negro and Central Plateau of Santa Cruz, both in Patagonia. The dates that define the period of study correspond to the volcanoes eruption of the Hudson (1991) and Puyehue (2011), whose impact on the Central Plateau and the Linea Sur respectively has been particularly relevant. We close the text with a brief recap and reflections.
