This article discusses the influence of the press in the process of independence and some aspects of literacy in New Spain. The press was in Mexico during the first decades of the nineteenth century one of the most important vehicles for disseminating new ideas. He had a pedagogical function and caused an ideological transformation. Since this approach argue that publications aroused public spirit in regard to political and institutional issues and the construction of a new society.
