Abstract

DE LUCA, Candela. …Y QUE OLVIDEN LOS ERRORES DE SUS ANTIGUOS RITOS Y CEREMONIAS SUPERSTICIOSAS, VIVAN EN CONCIERTO Y POLICÍA…: Transformaciones y continuidades en la organización parroquial indígena potosina durante el siglo XVIII1. Rev. hist. am. argent. [online]. 2016, vol.51, n.1, pp.11-37. ISSN 2314-1549.

This paper aims to provide an overview about the organization of the Indians’ churches of Potosi. From the factory books, we can recover data that allow us to describe the territorial / parochial organization. This process presents clues about the mechanisms of restraint and control of the native population, such as the confraternity assignment. We seek to know how the process of imposition, negotiation and resistance to Spanish rules was experienced by the indigenous population, since we have noticed in previous papers that certain aspects of the pre-Hispanic period -for instance the organization of communal unity and territorial order and the perception of sacred space- continue to develop under the colonial infrastructure. The perception of space -and its implicit sacredness- is a key to understand the processes carried out in the region, marked by the scattering and organization of the Indian population.

Keywords : Indian´s parishes; Potosí; 18th Century; Sacred space.
