Abstract
BIANGARDI, Nicolás. NO SÓLO DE VACAS Y TRIGO VIVÍA EL HOMBRE: Actividades económicas alternativas en la región Río de la Plata a fines del siglo XVIII. Rev. hist. am. argent. [online]. 2018, vol.53, n.1, pp.11-31. ISSN 2314-1549.
This paper examines a number of economic activities that appeared as alternatives in the River Plate in the 18th century. Based on the information taken from tax sources, it analyzes several aspects of whitemouth croaker (corvina) fishing and South American sea lion hunting in Maldonado and lumberjacking and lumber and charcoal sale in Las Conchas and Montevideo. Although the tax records reveal only part of the economic movement generated by these activities, they show nonetheless that the latter were more important than what can be inferred from the prevailing presence of trade, bovine exploitation and agricultural production.
