Abstract

MORRESI, Sergio Daniel. RECOGNIZE THE ACTING. LIBERALISM-CONSERVATOR AND ITS LOOKS ON DICTADURE AND VIOLENCE (1982-1989). Rev. hist. am. argent. [online]. 2019, vol.54, n.2, pp.223-254. ISSN 2314-1549.

This article aims to show the ways in which the Argentine liberal-conservative repositioned themselves after the last dictatorship run-out, and explore their thinking and attitudes respecting coups d’état and state-driven political violence between 1982 and 1989 through the analysis of essays, memoirs and published interviews. The focus is placed on the Union of the Democratic Center because this party grew electorally in the 1980's and their proposals had influence in the following years. The research shows that the positions of the liberal-conservatives were not guided only by its ideological framework, but also influenced by domestic political calculus and geopolitical reasons.

Keywords : Democracy; Rights; Dictatorship; Liberal-conservatism.
