In 2014 the first edition of Manuel Moreno Fraginals's exceptional book, known simply as El Ingenio, completed half a century of publication. It is a work whose importance for the historiography of sugar is recognized in academic circles both in Cuba and internationally. The main aims of this text are to describe its creation, evaluate its content and its trajectory.
