Abstract

PINTO VALLEJOS, Julio. Los sujetos populares y la historiografía independentista: omisiones, inclusiones, matices. Travesía (San Miguel de Tucumán) [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.2, pp.27-34. ISSN 2314-2707.

This presentation examines the treatment of popular groups by the historiography of Latin American independences, tracing an arc that moves from their almost total disregard by nineteenth-century authors to their more recent recognition as historical subjects in all senses of the term.  It concludes by proposing a new approach that focuses on the devices deployed by the elites to handle those agencies, and aligns itself explicitly with a comparative perspective.

Keywords : Latin American independence; Popular groups; State-building; Comparative history.
