Abstract

GIRBAL-BLACHA, Noemí M.. Mirrors of the graphic history of argentine agriculture: magazine covers and advertisement (1930 -2015). Travesía (San Miguel de Tucumán) [online]. 2020, vol.22, n.2, pp.95-123. ISSN 2314-2707.

A possible historic reading of Argentine agriculture can be carried out from graphic illustrations, photographs, vignettes and advertisement which are not exempt from an interesting message if they are considered in context, with attention to their aesthetics, protagonists and design. As a mirror, they show us part of the reality. This research intends to cross the mirror and analize parts of certain publications: specialized agricultural and also popular magazines. The focus is mainly on cover photographs and advertising graphic design. These include humorous comments as a way of expressing the reality. The collective memory does not always registers these sources of information for a critical reading of the agricultural past of Argentina between the years of Interventionist State (1930) and the end of the national and popular government led by kirchnerism (2015). This is the main purpose of this historical research on primary sources, in this case graphic ones, accompanying the diverse times of the Argentinean people. This project reviews case studies in order to achieve an interpretation and explanation of the different situations of a historical agrarian country, from this perspective, unusual in the bibliography on historical rural researches.
