Abstract

PI¿½REZ I¿½LVAREZ, Gonzalo. The (broken) dream of creating a region without history: Argentine Patagonia in two subscales: the northeast of Chubut and the island of Tierra del Fuego. Travesía (San Miguel de Tucumán) [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.1, pp.129-155. ISSN 2314-2707.

In this papers investigates how Argentine governments projected the design of southern Patagonia, especially since the 1960s and 1970s. The key to this intervention was the implantation of "development" poles, industrialization projects subsidized by the national State, framed within the doctrine of national security and the context of the cold war. These projects adopted a conception of Patagonia as a region "without history". From this perspective, the developmentalist model tried to invent a region without social conflict and fully designed by the planners. The text shows that this projection failed partially, especially due to the collective action of the workers.

Keywords : Development Pole; Argentine Patagonia; Working Class; Regional History.
