Abstract

RASCOVAN, Alejandro. Infrastructure and Regional Integration in South America: A Geopolitical View of Railway Projects in the Framework of IIRSACOSIPLAN. Relac. int. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.51, pp.59-80. ISSN 2314-2766.

Railway infrastructure has been an important topic since the 1930's when the first, and still only, connection between Argentina and Brazil, was build. From a geopolitical framework that takes into consideration the representation and power struggles expressed by the actors involved - National States, Local States, regional institutions, public and private companies- we seek to analyze what is at stake in the main railway projects developed -weather they've been executed or not - by the MERCOSUR or IIRSA/COSIPLAN institutionality

Keywords : Regional integration; Railway Infrastructure; Geopolitics; UNASUR.
