This study analyzes the strategic importance of Africa to Japan and vice versa, considering the relevance of the discourse of human security in the maintenance of the relationship between the japanese state and the african continent. In this sense, initially, it is realized a historical review on the linkages between Japan and Africa; later, are observed the characteristics of Japan's foreign policy toward Africa, and, finally it is evaluated the effectiveness of the human security discourse as an element of foreign policy against the imperialists interests. Therefore, the case of South Sudan is used to ratify the Japanese operations in Africa, the importance of the Self-Defense Forces in the region and the discourse of human security, as well as trying to understand the weaknesses in this relationship.
