Abstract

MAFFIA, Marta  and  MATEO, Luz. Electoral participation and political transnationalism. Cape Verdean residents in Argentina and their vote in the presidential elections in Cape Verde. Relac. int. [online]. 2018, vol.27, n.54, pp.33-53. ISSN 2314-2766.

: Since 1991 Cape Verde has held democratic elections in the three levels of political power: municipal, legislative and presidential. As of the 1992 constitutional review, Cape Verdeans not living in the archipelago and aged 18 or over who are regis-tered in the electoral rolls, have the right to vote. Cape Verdean residents in Argentina, as part of the so-called "electoral circuit of the diaspora" have participated in the last three presidential elections. The aim of this work is to refer specifically to the political transnationalism in relation to the votes of the Cape Verdean community abroad in general and in Argentina in particu-lar, regarding the exercise of citizenship and identity.

Keywords : vote; Africa; Argentina; Cape Verde; transnationalism; citizenship; identities.
