Abstract

NUNEZ, Jonatan. Sudamérica en la geopolítica de los hidrocarburos. Una aproximación a los casos de Vaca Muerta y el Pré-sal. Relac. int. [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.62, pp.61-74. ISSN 2314-2766.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/23142766e145.

Energy geopolitics are currently strained by three factors: the acceleration of global warming to which fossil combustion contributes, the growing dispute over these resources and their progressive depletion. Despite the climate crisis, companies and governments are forcing the hydrocarbon frontier, advancing on deposits that require techniques such as fracking, mega-mining and deep-water platforms. On a scale, South America reproduces these dynamics and tests such ventures. Due to their magnitude, the two most prominent examples of this are those of Vaca Muerta, in the southwest of Argentina, and Pre-salt, on the Brazilian coast. In this article we will study their historical development, the actors participating in their exploitation and their projections.

Keywords : global warming; hydrocarbon border; Vaca Muerta; Pré-sal.
