Abstract

FERNANDEZ ROZAS, José Carlos. THE EUROPEAN UNION ONITS SIXTIETHANNIVERSARY: BETWEEN DECONSTRUCTION AND RESILIENCE. Rev. Fac. [online]. 2017, vol.8, n.1, pp.1-20. ISSN 1850-9371.

On 25 March 2017 the Heads of State or Government and the Presidents of the EU Institutions met in Rome to mark the 60th anniver-sary of the signature of the Treaties of Rome, which laid the foundations for the European Union we know today. For 60 years Union has been built promoting peaceful cooperation, respect of human dignity, liberty, democracy, equality and solidarity among European nations and peo-ples. This anniversary not be considered as a mere celebration, to re-member a historical event, but as an opportunity to revive the European political process, to consolidate the functioning of the EU institutions, the application of genuine European policies and the revival of the dynamism of weakened economies by combining sustainable growth with social development. This is the spirit of the Rome Declaration of March 25, 2017 in establishing the desire for a more secure and protec-ted EU, prosperous, competitive, sustainable and socially responsible, and with the will and capacity of playing a key role in the world and of shaping globalization.
