The work addresses the challenges posed by an internationalization program at home in the Social Anthropology degree, during 2021–2022, whose proposal is stated as comprehensive and is characterized by promoting university initiatives that allow bringing the international dimension closer to the substantive functions. Starting from an anthropological approach that contrasts the vision of the program with that of the teachers, we develop an analysis with two types of sources: a) official documents that are relevant to understand the place of internationalization, integrality and the universal in the institution, and b) the teachers’ imaginaries surveyed in the context of focus groups and personal interviews regarding internationalization. Our interpretation suggests that anthropology teachers–researchers could use a strategy that allows them to carry out a dialectical detour with the universal and the local of another place, thus integrating the contents of the curriculum to the development of intercultural competencies and the production of relevant knowledge. both for local public agendas and for disciplinary theoretical agendas.
