Abstract

NOELLE, Louise. Mario Pani in the venezuelan context. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2012, vol.42, n.2, pp.179-190. ISSN 2362-2024.

Mario Pani is one of the most prolific Mexican architects of the twentieth century. He offered original and adequate answers to different requirements in the fields of education, public health and housing. He was also interested in urban planning, especially in the master plan for the University City of the Universidad de Mexico, developed in close collaboration with Enrique del Moral. Understanding Pani's interest in "Plastic Integration" allows us to establish the importance of the wide range of examples he left in this field. In this sense one can appreciate how an interesting parallel is established with the Venezuelan architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva. This can be seen in works undertaken by both in housing and the Caracas University City, were integration of the arts plays a fundamental roll. As a corollary, a series of projects by Pani for Caracas, although inbuilt, are found to be particularly relevant.

Keywords : Historical comparisons; Synthesis of the arts; Analogy Mexico/Caracas; Pani's work.
