Abstract

SIMON SOL, Gabriel. Clarita Porset (1985-1981) and the second modernity influence on industrial design in Mexico. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2013, vol.43, n.1, pp.37-54. ISSN 2362-2024.

Industrial design birth in Mexico, as a well known profession recognized by some and practiced by others, has coincidence with the movement called second modernity or late modernity . It corresponds to the initial moment of the functionalism as a suitable instrument to confront the severe problems of the mass. Clarita Porset is an unquestionable figure between the professionals and professors who educated the first industrial designers generations at the National Self Governing University of Mexico. She was a woman with a big aesthetic sensitivity and social conscience. Clara Porset was a prolific designer with a strong influence on popular Mexican crafts, without setting aside the avant-garde thoughts. As a result of this amalgam and cultural merge, we have our furniture design.
