Abstract

CARRANZA, Martín. Interchanges about teaching design in the developmental Argentina: School of Fine Art´case at the National University in La Plata. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2013, vol.43, n.2, pp.183-200. ISSN 2362-2024.

From the relationship between Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm, Germany (HfG Ulm) and Latin America came the idea to check the institutional history of teaching Design in Argentina, in order to analyze the homonymous career at the Superior School of Fine Art in La Plata´s National University. The problem´s explanation focuses its hypotheses on three key points: 1) The relationship with the developmental economic model of Dr. Arturo Frondizi´s presidency (1958/62), which included a systematic plan in favour of local industry; 2) The concrete actions of valuable, anonymous professors that left their imprint on some local, national and international teaching centres; 3) The discussions about the meaning of the word design in its different areas, distinguishing it from Architecture. Finally, this work tries to articulate a very specific micro-history which interlinks major topics in the Design´s field, trying to avoid that the distances between the individual and the general make unworkable contrasts.
