Abstract

MAZZEO, Cecilia. Graphic design at the School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism, a net of heritage and renewals. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2013, vol.43, n.2, pp.213-226. ISSN 2362-2024.

Graphic Design career was created at the School of Architecture and Urbanism (FAU) University of Buenos Aires (UBA) in 1985, it has the peculiarity to have been created and developed in the same academic building than the Architecture career. This origin has determined the academic and professional profile to the ones who have been educated there. To this peculiarity we have to sum up the UBA´s own massiveness, which let the development of many chairs in charge of  giving classes about the main subjects of the career. This peculiarities´ conjunction has allowed to work with proposals upholded in different conceptions on discipline and its teaching; those proposals make up a rich net of characteristics clearly distinguished in connection with teaching discipline´s proposals developed in other academic fields. This article shows part of the researching developed in the doctoral thesis entitled What does the design say about the design teaching? defended at the School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism in the University of Buenos Aires on April 2013, unpublished until the date of this publication. The researching done, has centered the lookout on the traditions´ history and people who had created Graphic Design´s career since its birth to the thesis presentation, which it has involved a necessary cut of other possible approaches, but it has allowed to re build the beginning of a process that can project to other Latin American academic fields.
