The study of exhibitions allows exploring the ways in which the city´s representations are produced and consumed. Each work expresses a part of the urban life, from which it is possible to understand a certain visual culture. With this premises, this article will examine the exhibition of Buenos Aires urban landscape paintings at the National Fine Arts Salon between 1911 and 1939. The choice of representing the city becomes a modern gesture in a context where representing local traditions was favored by the official art institutions. In this regard, the study of the Salon in the context of other institutions operating in this period, will allow to understand how its legitimating operated and how the city´s imaginaries where shaped through art.
