Abstract

MAYA SIERRA, Tania. The National Panopticon of Colombia, heterotopia of deviation and empire of look. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2014, vol.44, n.2, pp.133-146. ISSN 2362-2024.

This article explores the creation of the National Panopticon of Colombia as a heterotopia of deviation which, according to Michel Foucault (1967), corresponds to a type of space different of the spaces where the normal life develops or evolves . The reflection focuses on the intent that governs this specific type of architecture: its establishment as an instrument of control, of political and social order; and therefore on the effects that its shape and spatial arrangement achieve in the individuals which houses. Effects that must be guaranteed through the staging of the vigilant look which, from its supposed ubiquity, is the foundation of discourse that generates the panopticon device. However, the author notes how this device contains in its operation, paradoxically, its correlate.

Keywords : Architecture; Look; Panopticon; Heterotopy.
