Abstract

DOMINGUEZ, Fernando. Juan Kurchan and the hotel for tourism in Formosa: the undeniable modern lineage. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2020, vol.50, n.2, pp.165-182. ISSN 2362-2024.

The article investigates about a forgotten and little-known work of Architect Juan Kurchan, absolute reference of modernity in Argentina and founder of the Austral Group (1938). The proposal is to analyse it in parallel with a project not built and of little diffusion of its teacher, Le Corbusier. The studied work of Kurchan, together with the URBIS group, is recorded in the detected period of greatest historiographic void of the former Austral, a work that dates back to the year 1970, two years before his death. The aim is to demonstrate the relevance of modern concepts used by Kurchan throughout his career, as well as his intention of summarising in a single project the ideas and postulates in which he particularly believed.

Keywords : Juan Kurchan; Modern Movement; Grupo Austral; Argentine architecture; hotel for tourism; Argentina; decade of 1970.
