Abstract

MARTINEZ NESPRAL, Fernando Luis. Oriental invariants: Fernando Chueca Goitía, his travels through the islamic world and the lost project of a hotel in Mosul. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2020, vol.50, n.2, pp.183-194. ISSN 2362-2024.

Fernando Chueca Goitía (Madrid 1911-2004) was an outstanding Spanish architect, famous for his written work. As evidenced by its inclusion in a large number of bibliographies of chairs and very varied courses in our medium (see Curros Cámara, 2018), the author has overcome the passage of time and remains valid until now in the speeches that explain architecture. This text is dedicated to a particular facet of his much less known life, his travels through the Islamic world, whose observations can give guidelines for a rereading of his texts. Finally, we will focus on an unknown project by Chueca in Mosul, Iraq, that motivated one of those trips.

Keywords : Fernando Chueca Goitía; Islamic world; architectural project; travels; Spain; Islamic world; 20th Century.
