Abstract

DURAN, Valeria  and  FLESLER, Griselda. On visibility, essentialisms and contingencies: contributions of gender studies to the field of design. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2021, vol.51, n.1, pp.1-13. ISSN 2362-2024.

Recently, within the framework of greater visibility of feminisms, “gender based design” has gained prominence in the world of design. Starting from the non-essentialist paradigm of identity, this article proposes to reflect on the various contributions of feminist studies to the field of design. In the first place, it highlights the perspective of the History of Women as a fundamental contribution to unravel practices and biographies made invisible by the hegemonic discourse of design. Secondly, it is interested in adding the perspective of queer and decolonial studies that indicate the need to deconstruct binary and, in some cases, essentialist positions.

Keywords : design; gender studies; identity; binarisms; Space and time references: Buenos; XXIst Century.
