Abstract

CARIGNANI, Paloma  and  GUGLIOTTELLA, Gabriela. Available space: domesticity and housing on the Airbnb platform. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.1, pp.8-8. ISSN 2362-2024.

This article analyzes the relationships between housing, decoration and domesticity from advertisements, photographs and objects of the temporary rental platform Airbnb in Buenos Aires. How are the spatial dimension and its modes of domesticity represented? Which operations of the architectural and design fields are presented as a guarantee of distinction? Which category is used to build a dominant architectural sense?

The objective is to revisit the narrative about housing in today’s society. The hypothesis that guides this research is that in public interactions norms are established and rules are discussed for the construction of the meaning about housing. The relevance of studying the senses that circulate in social networks is sustained by the impact that they might have on the design processes of housing production and the social meanings that are derived from there.

Keywords : architecture; decoration; domesticity; Airbnb; Buenos Aires; XXIst Century.
