Abstract

SASIAIN, Sonia. Housing in the cinematographic propaganda of the first peronism. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.2, e003. ISSN 2362-2024.

During the first Peronism the State articulated, through propaganda cinema, a social discourse promoting the democratization of the access of new sectors to the benefits of modernization and a regulatory look at the process. In this sense, the present article inquires about the way in which this transformation was represented in two documentary propaganda films during the period, with emphasis on the “question of housing”: Our Home and The city in front of the river. The hypothesis of this article is that the cinema sought to install a social imaginary of modernization from a utopian vision of this process and was key to promote new values to a diverse audience that was not always ready to receive messages favorably. Although the theme of these institutional documentaries that spread housing was unambiguous, the discourses were opposite, at an aesthetic and narrative level, and this speaks of divided audiences.
