Abstract

DE ALMEIDA PAULILLO, Clarissa. Service spaces in the house: a research on Sao Paulo’s apartments in Acrópole magazine, 1938-1971. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.2, e005. ISSN 2362-2024.

The article aims to examine the service spaces of vertical housing in the city of São Paulo, more specifically the service area or laundry room and the maid’s rooms in the projectspublished in Acrópole magazine (1938-1971). The way in which these compartments are organized is studied through the graphic pieces, photographs and texts presented in the articles. From there on, the research seeks to understand how certain predicates of modern domesticity assume a significant role in guiding material and spatial arrangements, and to grasp the vision of architectural professionals and of the real estate market about housework activities and the servile and intersectional relations.

Keywords : housing; domestic work; gender; São Paulo; Acrópole magazine; San Pablo; 1938-1971.
