Abstract

SILVERO, Florencia Amado. Two decades of Californian domestic architecture through Argentine professional journals (1933-1955). An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.2, e006. ISSN 2362-2024.

Architectural historiography has not included Californian architecture. Usually, it has been studied as a variant of the Neocolonial of the north of the continent, which would also reach Argentina. Consequently, this domestic architecture has occupied a subsidiary place in specialized historical publications, but a protagonic one in professional periodicals and for the general public, which shows its relevance. This article proposes to identify the different ways of naming, categorizing, characterizing and illustrating these houses from academic, professional and other mass dissemination publications, in order to give account of the importance of this widespread production in the middle of the 20th century and of the dissemination strategies and pedagogical actions that accompanied and promoted it.

Keywords : Californian architecture; specialized historical publications; domestic architecture; Argentina; Argentina; 1933-1955.
